Since Selah's birthday was on a busy Wednesday, we started with a birthday donut and a few presents. Selah took treats to her class, including some Ethiopian candy with Amharic writing on the wrapper! I was glad she was proud to share a little bit of ethiopia with her class.
We had a visit from Nana and Linda the Great Friday night, followed by Saturday morning with Papa and Nana Paula...
And finally the Princess Party with a few of Selah's classmates....we invited the girls to wear their favorite dress-up clothes and rather than overwhelming Selah with a ton of stuff, we asked everyone to bring a wrapped barbie to exchange. After the traditional spilling of punch, the rest of the party was great. The girls had a blast going through our dress-up box!

I REALLY love the idea of the barbie exchange! There is just so much extra stuff that is gained as birthday presents and that is an awesome way to cut that down. The cake looks amazing...good job Mom!
Looks like a great time. Love the cake!
Happy Birthday Selah! It sounds like you had great celebrations and I have to tell you our son is very into the song Head and Shoulders right now and I think of Selah in Ethiopia everytime we sing it!!
Fun!!!! Like the exchange idea and cute cake!
Looks like a great party! great ideas to cut down on "so much stuff". FUN cake!
Oh what the blast Selah is having. She's so gorgeous with her little princess outfit and the crown! Happy belated Birthday Selah!
PS: Where did you find candy with Amharic writing on it?
Thanks everyone! I'm amazed at what God has done for our family this year - so incredibly grateful!
Alida - when we were in Ethiopia I was on the lookout for some sort of Ethiopian candy that our kids could share with their friends or when we spoke in their classes (which happens alot!). It wasn't easy to find, but I finally found a hard candy by a company called Royal. It was perfect - each individually wrapped mango-banana-orange flavored candy with Amharic and English on the wrapper. I wish we had more!
