I have a child who woke up with a stomach ache this morning. Upon closer inspection, she also woke up with pieces of gum stuck to her pajamas.....suspiciously, I asked if she had been eating candy in bed.
Her: "um, before bed"
Me: "but you weren't wearing your pajamas until right before bed, so how could this happen?"
She and I marched up to her room and I demanded any more candy she had stashed away....she handed me no less than 15 candy wrappers from under her pillows and under her mattress. Keep in mind, we've only had the candy in the house for 2 days (homecoming parade this weekend), so she ate all of it in the last 48 hours.
As a parent, I can be disappointed about the deceipt, hiding, food addiction (though I'm sure that's my fault!)....
but this is the other part of who my daughter is......
in the mornings before school, Sophia goes to greet Josh, our neighbor with Downs Syndrome. She gives him a good-morning hug, and often puts her arm around him to help get him on the bus. The bus driver has come to depend on Sophia to help Josh get on and off the bus every day and get to the right place at school. This girl has a heart as big as Texas. I love seeing God in her and wondering how He'll use her!
And I just have to remember....I've got some metaphorical "candy wrappers" stashed under my pillow, too. But I'm becoming more of who God wants me to be every day. And so is Sophia.

Oh Sophie. :) I love her!
Oh Sophia! What a sweetheart! I always loved watching her chase after Jackson at church. We miss your family. Thank goodness for blogs!
I love the balance in your posts. Every negative is turned into a positive.
I hope that the literal candy problem gets cleared up but that she stays sweet just the same!
She's just like her Aunt Sunita.... I remember when I would hide candy all over the place in my bedroom. Mom would even come to my room and say , "Do you have any chocolate"-- She knew she could always find something.... Today even at work I have a cabinet with a candy dish and it's full of snickers...
Does Sophia want to move to Florida? She sounds like a beautiful girl--my L. has a Sophia in his class, too. What a sweet heart she has!
