Apparently, I've been shopping in the Ghetto...

I went to Meijer yesterday, looking for fortune cookies. We're throwing an adoption shower for our friends, the McGowans and the Severns this weekend - both families brought home little girls from China in the last couple of months. Fortune cookies, get it??

Anyway, Meijer is on the opposite side of town from where we live. But, they've got a decent international foods section. I guess it's been awhile...

As I brought my cart in from outside, I noticed a strange hole near the handle....what? Cup holders in the shopping cart? I was kicking myself for not bringing my polar pop into the store...then, as I stepped into the store, I was practically blinded...by produce! I'm not sure I've ever seen apples so shiny and perfect...except on television commercials. (My friend, Amanda S, says it's because of an edible wax on the apples, but I think there's got to be more to it) I got my fortune cookies and stuff for a fruit tray and made my way to the check-out.

I've gotta admit something.

I'm afraid of the self check-out.

I've done it a couple of times when I was with someone else who knew what they were doing, but overall, I'm totally intimidated.....So, I stand in line for a real person, and while I'm waiting, I find myself watching the tv commercials being played on the screen at each check-out counter. If you'd suggested to me 25 years ago that I'd be watching tv in the checkout line at the grocery store, I'd have thought of the Jetsons....

Meijer is stills really far out of my way, but I hear they double coupons - - can anybody confirm that in Springfield??

we went there last night for the first time. We went in for baby wipes and ended up with Christmas presents for all four of the kids. Great store... don't know about the coupons though.

I <3 the international section, I always try to get one new food from that area to try. Yum.

We get double coupons in Indy as well. $22 last week! :)

Gretchen,
The Springfield store doesn't double coupons! At least not the last time I checked. They didn't even understand what I was talking about when I asked them! It's a regional thing, and it's not our region!!!

I love Meijers. I wish ours would do double coupons, but I don't think anyone in the Chicagoland area doubles couons anymore since the 80s.

I too am afraid of self-check out and occasionally gas pumps. Good to hear that someone else is too!
Meijer's produce area is my favorite part of the store!
