I miss my DVR.
We have a deal in our house....we have Dish for 6 months of the year - football season!! After the Superbowl (which Todd watched on a super-slow internet connection in Ethiopia this year), we "pause" our service for the next 6 months.
Last year, we paid $5/month and kept the receiver and DVR, so we'd have all the kids recorded movies on hand, and just used the rabbit ears to watch tv.
This year, we've got the new converter for the tv, and are thinking about just cancelling the Dish altogether (which means they'll take our DVR'd movies and the reciever back!). We havent done it yet, but we've disconnected it to see how the converter works.
here's the deal....I really miss the DVR. I miss pausing, rewinding, skipping commercials, and recording my favorites. So here's where I need the help of my more techy readers.....
Is there a fairly inexpensive way to have a DVR/TiVo-type system using the antenna and converter??
I'd appreciate any suggestions....we'll soon be returning you to the regularly scheduled adoption updates!

Of all the sacrifices I made I miss tivo the most. I loved the recording and the skipping of commercials, but now I watch free tv and I am used to it. If I miss something I watch it online.
I don't know of another option. I will be watching this post to see if anyone else does.
I have no clue but I honestly don't know what I did before DVR. I certainly could never have watched anything with Mari in the house! And it's so nice when she is being a total rugrat to just hit play and on pops Dora or LazyTown. I know, bad mommy! Whatever...you do what you gotta do. Good luck!
Try calling Best Buy's Geek Squad or their AV department and ask! I'm sure they're used to getting questions like this with the Digital deadline creeping ever-closer!!
If not, I'll record anything you want and you can watch it at our house!! ;-)
