The Bachelor

So, I will confess to the 3 of you who read this blog that I like reality tv. This Spring I was following American Idol, The Apprentice, Survivor, and my favorite, The Amazing Race. Monday nights after the girls went to bed I occasionally caught some of The Bachelor, but usually the idea that one guy is dating several girls at the same time makes me so angry that I find something else to do.

Last night, however, I allowed 3 irretrievable hours of my life to be sucked down a cable vortex as I watched the season finale of The Bachelor.

I was just flipping through channels when I saw that it was the finale.....little did I know that the live finale was 3 hours long. How easily I'm enticed.....I really believed the host when he said, "In just a few moments, we'll know who Charlie chose to get the final rose". Two hours and 45 minutes is not "a few moments". But I sat through the whole thing anyway (I'm nothing if not loyal!).

Sunday was the Survivor Finale. We taped it to watch after the kids went to bed....so we're watching our tape, and about 1/2 hour before the end, the tape turns off...I don't know what happened, except that after a few minutes of being really annoyed that we wouldn't get to see the end, I realized...

WHO CARES?!

TV stinks. Not that I'm ready to give it all up. I just hate how much of life can be wasted in front of it.

That's it. That's all I've got to say.

Except that maybe TiVo would help us avoid the tape running out problem.....

Even in Africa. The one channel we currently get now airs at least two movies a day. The other day I actually watched "Junior" - that Arnold movie where he gets pregnant - just because it was on.

I only watch cartoons and the hisory channel, if it's not animated or a documentary, I don't want to see it.

This quote was part of my Lectio365 Sabbath devotion this morning, and as I considered what this day should look like, I began considering ...
