Our kids decided to give up TV for Lent...we were pretty proud of them, but skeptical about whether or not they could do it without whining...or "cheating".....I've been amazed at how well it's gone. I don't think either of them has asked to watch TV since we started. As a matter of fact, one of the girls was worried because they were going to watch a movie at school and she didn't want to break our "fast".
One down-side to the whole thing (besides missing the Amazing Race) is that Sarah Jane has developed an addiction to Computer Games - Disney.com, Jump Start, Veggie Tales...whatever she can get her hands on.....we do serious negotiating now about how long we'll be on the computer because she wants a turn.
So, essentially, she's just gone from one bad habit to another.
I would try to limit her computer game time to help wean her, but I'm afraid she'll just pick up another bad habit...like smoking....
