Family Time with Horses

One of the things my mother has instilled in my children is her love for horses. We had a few horses during my high school years (but I was more interested in boys and makeup), and my parents' house now backs up to a horse barn, so the girls get to visit and feed them at every visit.

A couple weekends ago she signed us up for Family Time with Horses, put on by their local community college. All 4 of us worked together grooming the horses,

learning some of the riding basics,

and yes, mucking the stalls!!

It was such a great program for the girls, because it didn't just let them do the fun part - - they had to do the harder (ickier) parts, too. If you live near Heartland Community College, I highly recommend this class!

How fun that the kids can learn something that was so a part of your mothers life. Ive heard about classes you can sign up for to learn about taking "complete" (including poop shoveling) care of the horses. Brushing and of course riding. They are lucky to be able to do this and it does look like they enjoyed it (except for the pic inside the stall LOL!)
