Surviving the Summer with Cheap Fun

Summer is coming. And though my kids can't wait, it's got me just a little worried about 3 kids and LOTS of free time! Something that's essential for our family is a plan. We don't plan out every last detail, but I try to have one activity for each day - library, pool, bike trail, park.....

So here are a couple of ideas for free Springfield area summer activities:

Kids Bowl Free
- Bowling alleys around the country have a program to give kids 2 free games of bowling every day this summer!! Register and they'll send coupon information...

Free Summer Movies - Kerasotes has free kids movies on Wednesdays and Thursdays all summer long!

Another money-saving help....have you seen the new Springfield Area Coupon Books? For $20, you can buy a coupon book with over $1,000 worth of coupons! Use the very first coupon, 1 free oil change at Friendly Chevrolet, and the book pays for itself. Other coupons to save your family money:
  • Free Tans
  • 2 week trial gym membership
  • BOGO greens fees at The Rail Golf Course
  • BOGO games of bowling
  • BOGO Laser Tag and Go-Karts at Kicks
  • BOGO Mini Golf at Knights Action Park
  • BOGO Sunday Brunch at the Crown Plaza
  • BOGO Entrees at Carlos O'Kelly's, El Maya, Qdoba
  • BOGO sandwiches at Rally's, Sonic, Arby's, Burger King
  • and lots more!!
In His Hands Orphans Ministry is currently selling the books, and proceeds all go help orphans. Let me know if you'd like one, or you can get them at the In His Hands Garage Sale, May 23rd at Rochester Christian Church.

What tricks do you have for surviving the summer?

This is the first summer we have a teen licensed driver in the house...so if they get bored or restless, he can take his brother out somewhere...anywhere...LOL!!
We have lots of pool time planned and football practice goes all summer long. Plenty to keep them occupied I hope!

The fountain at UIS is fun to play in!! We went out a couple times last year. I'm hoping Mamush will like it more this summer. It was very peaceful between summer school and the fall semester.

I plan to head up to park by the zoo in Bloomington/Normal -- free water features at the playground.

I'd definitely need a plan, too.
Put visiting the Rogals on your list!
