I'm not going to pretend to understand the health care debate.
I've tried. I've read. Well, I've read a little.
What's interesting is the response of, specifically, Christians - lots of whining and complaining. In the last few days I've heard and read ridiculous things like, "I'm gonna have to move to Guam" or "this is just the beginning of our freedoms being taken away...first National Health Care, and next forced abortions!".
Really? Because I didn't read anything about that. I read some stuff about millions of Americans just like me who need health insurance....but nothing about the end of the world or Satan moving into the White House.
Maybe this whole insurance thing is the worst decision ever.
I'm pretty sure God is bigger.
I thought my husband having a brain tumor was a pretty bad idea, but God has done some amazing stuff through that whole situation. And whether or not health care reform is a good idea or a miserable one, God is still on the throne. He's still the one who arranged the freckles on my daughter's nose and wakes the sun up every morning. There is no health care crisis that is somehow bigger than what He can handle.
Sure, voice your opinion. Call your congressman or help inform your friends...but let's make sure that in all things, our message is Christ and the HOPE he brings!
(I'd love to talk to you about health care reform. But not if you think you have all the answers, or want to convince me to think the way you do. You're invited to come over for dinner and we can talk about life and mercy and justice and eat chocolate cake....the way civil people do)

What a great reminder! My husband and I have been talking about this a lot - I posted yesterday about our thoughts and it stirred up quite the debate. I think healthy conversation is good. I think anyone who has an opinion (and really we all should - not just about healthcare but about everything that goes before Congress) should tell their representatives. They represent us and they cannot do what we want unless we tell them what that is. But you are so right that like it or don't like it, fear it or for it, in the end God is taking care of all of us.

I like how you included the ideas of Christianity and linked it to the frenzy of the health care debate. I've been watching this from a far and would have to agree that there seems to be a lot of unwarranted fear around the issue. God bless!
