Breaking the news....

What's the best way to break bad news?

Do you try to soften the blow by setting it up....couching the bad news in "the bright side"? Just blurt it out and get it over with?
  • When I was about 8, someone ran into my house and announced to me that my brother had been hit by a car, broken his neck, and would never walk again (not true...hit by a car, yes....but broke his pelvis and walked again soon).
  • We've had to break news to our girls about family members dying or divorcing....
  • Had to break it to a friend when their "crush" just wasn't interested......
It's not easy....and I guess how you do it depends on the person and the situation. But ultimately, it's about telling the truth.

So.......

Shana, one of your fish died and was buried in our backyard yesterday.

AW, we have a fishy that's been here since Christmas. We 're pretty open to the kids about things like that... it's going to happen some time!

Poor little fish, you could always go out and get another one though to replace it. Some things in life you can't replace that easy.

Haha, totally kidding. :) Which one was it? I'm guessing the small one...

This quote was part of my Lectio365 Sabbath devotion this morning, and as I considered what this day should look like, I began considering ...
