Bring on the wine...

For Lent this year, we decided that rather than giving something up, we would add a time of reading the Bible together before school in the mornings. We already cut the cable, so really, how much can one family be expected to sacrifice?!

kidding...

Anyway, yesterday we were reading about Jesus' first miracle, when he turned the water into wine. Amazing, really....I had so many questions, like, his mom obviously knew he could fix this wedding host's problem...what kinds of other miracles had Jesus been doing around the house? I was getting really excited talking to the girls about this, when the discussion got sidetracked and I realized they really were concerned about just one thing:
"Isn't drinking wine bad??"
Todd and I aren't opposed to drinking alcohol in moderation. We just don't do it often. Partly because neither of us really like the taste, but mostly because the population we work with have a hard time understanding the "moderation" part, and sometimes it's just easier to not mess with the whole thing.

Maybe we should have wine with dinner more often....just so we don't raise little pharisees.....

Gretchen,

I love the idea of teaching the kids moderation. But, I do not think you should have to force yourself to drink something you don't like to teach it. We can also teach moderation by not over-eating, not watching too much TV, and more. You know that I am NOT a very moderate person, which is why I do not choose to partake of my liberty to drink. And, honestly, I praise God that I do not have a taste for it!

Also, I appreciate your thinking of your students in your position on drinking!

It is not always easy to know the right stance to take. We ( Christians )can easily become pharisees. Jesus did make some wine, Paul advised Timothy to drink a little but if you don't like don't drink it. I do at times my wife does not. Hey- he knows our hearts. Dont know how this blog thing works, my blog is called Beauties of creation. Dave.
